EWT24 – Shareware

Date: 26th June 2010
Time: 15:30 – 17:30 GMT

I am going to role play as the Product Owner for SharedView. It is a free-screensharing utility. It is the first time it is going to beta and this is a live test of its capabilities. I need your help to flush out bugs, sure, but I would also like to try one or two competitors to see how we compare.

Testers: Dr. Meeta Prakash, Jon Bach, Katya Kameneva, Alexei Barantsev, Tony Bruce, Zeger van Hese, Alan Allerton, Aire Kurgpõld, Ajay Balamurugadas, Anna Baik, Markus Gärtner

Jon Bach lead through the session. The participants were asked to pair up for evaluating SharedView. Others that couldn’t run SharedView (due to missing Windows Live account or wrong OS) were asked to evaluate DimDim.

To wrap the session up Jon asked the participants to talk about their bugs from the SharedView pairing first. Then he asked the participants about their preference among the two. Despite some crashes both tools didn’t reveal and major data losses. Participants mostly preferred DimDim over MS SharedView. The arguments for it contained Operating System independence, features provided, and the ease of use in DimDim.
